English: The ancient town of Kapilvastu is located at a distance of about 8 km northeast of Taulihawa Bazaar, the ancient town of Niglihawa. Where Kanakamuni Buddha was born. This place is about 32 km from Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. Its geography is 27.6200 ° N latitude and 83.1100 ° E. It was here that Kanakamuni Buddha attained the knowledge of the Supreme Wisdom. Here the Ashoka Pillar is divided into two parts. The 14.9 feet tall upper pillar of the divided Ashoka is preserved inside the temple at the site of the first piece with the inscription buried in the ground.
Emperor Ashoka visited the site in 249 BC, and Emperor Ashoka enlarged the Kanakamuni Buddha Stupa. In the fourteenth year of the coronation of King Ashoka, the beloved deity of the deities, the stupa of Kanakamuni was raised for the second time and in the 20th year, he himself came to this place to worship and erected this pillar. Dr. Fuharar discovered a pillar in the Niglisagar Pond in 1895. The inscription in these columns was translated by George Buhler in 1896. At this site is the Niglihava Pillar with the inscriptions of Ashoka and Ripumalla. This column was moved to this place in 1996. In the Ashoka column here, the letters of Pali language are inscribed in Brahmalipi. It is said in Nepali: In the fourteenth year of the coronation of King Ashoka, the beloved of the gods, he had the stupa of Buddha Kanakamuni raised for the second time and in the twentieth year, he himself came to the place and worshiped and erected this pillar. In this column, there is a picture of two artistic peacocks and even a gem. According to the Sinhalese scriptures, the birth place of Kanakmuni Buddha was called Shobhavati Nagar. His father's name was Yagyadatta and his mother's name was Uttara. Accordingly, there were two prominent disciples named Vyas and Uttara. Emperor Ashoka had buried the pillar, but what this pillar fell into has become the subject of research. It is also a holy place of pilgrimage. Here, local and foreign tourists pay homage to the pillar and also offer worship. This place is very beautiful in a peaceful environment. Also, Niglihawa, a city of archeological and historical significance, is of great importance. Excavations at this site are likely to uncover a variety of other archeological sites. It is very important for the concerned bodies to pay attention to this. Kapilvastu can also be called an archeological city. Because many archeological sites are still hidden in this Kapilvastu. The blue signboard buried by the Department of Archeology of the Government of Nepal clearly mentions it as an archeological site. However, in most of these places, especially the temple of Samai Mai seems to have been established. |
